In response to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, restrictions on large gatherings have become increasingly strict, affecting sporting and cultural events all over the nation. Given the uncertainty of vaccine and/or therapeutic availability by race date, we have decided this year to hold the event virtually.
The safety of our runners and volunteers is our primary concern.
On behalf of the Frederick Steeplechasers, we hope that you and your families remain safe and healthy during this difficult time.
As the Frederick Market Street Mile goes virtual, we are offering two challenge-type events in addition to a virtual version of our regular one-mile distance. The challenges “tour” Maryland and Pennsylvania covered bridges.
Run your mile any time between Sep 12 and Sep 20. You can run in your neighborhood, on the trails, or on a treadmill. Just make sure that you maintain a safe distance from others. If you plan to submit your results, it's best to use a GPS Running/Fitness app like Map My Run, Strava, or a Garmin watch, or another timing device.
The Challenges are meant to be completed through a series of runs during the two-month period of September and October. You will be provided with the ability to upload each completed segment of your challenge as you make your way along our virtual course. Run a little bit at a time and spread it out, or put your pedal to the metal and get it done more quickly. It's completely up to you!
We can’t wait to see your photos! Please post and tag #frederickmsm on your own social media, on our facebook event, or on the results page. If you can get a photo on the run by a covered bridge, that would be really cool!
You have up to two months to complete this challenge (Sep 1 thru Oct 31) by running as many times as you need to complete 78.6 miles. Starting at the Market and South Streets in Frederick, virtually head south on Market street to pass Lincoln Elementary, the home of FSRC’s very own Lincoln Panther Program (an MSM beneficiary), then follow Center and South back to Market Street, past our other beneficiary City Youth Matrix at 22 S Market, then continue up Market Street past the YMCA to the Utica Covered Bridge (1850) in Thurmont. It’s not too far to the Loys Station Covered Bridge (1880) and a quick jog to Roddy Road Covered Bridge (1856), and then on up to Pennsylvania. You’ll pass Jacks Mountain Covered Bridge (1890) near Liberty Mountain Resort and on to Sachs Covered Bridge (1854) near Gettysburg. Then head South passing Loys Station Covered Bridge again before finishing at the Market Street Mile finish line on Market Street.
